Perhaps you’re a fan of Pidgin, and often chat on Yahoo, just like me. If you experience problem while connecting to Yahoo lately (you most probably do), you might need to read this article : http://www.celticwolf.com/useful-information/faqs/26-pidgin-yahoo. It looks like Yahoo upgrading their messenger system and it brings problem to Pidgin. As mentioned in the article, I change my server setting to one of those IP addresses mentioned there, and my Pidgin could connect to Yahoo again. Perhaps this is just a temporary solution. I hope Pidgin team could find a solution soon.
Do you think sticky notes (or post it) is interesting? Well, I do.. especially after playing with Windows 7 for the last few days. It has such application, bundled by default. Vista has it too, but I never use Vista. After taking some time googling, etc., I found this cool and free (which make it cooler) application: Stickies from Zhorn Software.
You can see it in action (opacity: 60%, font: Segoe Print from Windows 7):

Why don’t you stop reading, and just grab it here: http://zhornsoftware.co.uk/stickies/stickies_setup.exe
Update:
Later, after posting this article, I found an information on a mailing list that Conficker attack was related to security hole in Windows. Microsoft explains that in this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962007. There is a removal tool provided, which could be found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/890830.
All of a sudden, my Windows was attacked by a virus. Started by an error with Windows Defender, but I ignored it. Next, I found that my AVG couldn’t get virus update from the Internet, and then I also found that I could not access Microsoft’s website. Then next day I got more curious when I wasn’t able to show hidden files/folders in Windows Explorer. My laptop must have been invected by a virus.
My AVG has been paralyzed. Also Windows Defender. I tried to go to safe mode, and then updated my AVG, and did the scanning, AVG but found nothing. Next I tried to use Clamwin, no virus found. I try to use antivirus bundled with Hiren and UBCD4Win, still not detected. The virus finally detected and removed when I used Norman Malware Cleaner on safe mode. Norman reported that the virus was a worm named W32/Conficker.FA. Thanks, Norman!
But I still got one more problem. I still can not show the hidden files/folders. For this, I found a useful tips from: http://blog.its.ac.id/fuadcsitsacid/2008/02/20/petunjuk-untuk-mengembalikan-setting-folder-option-pada-registry. Here’s the summary:
- Open regedit (Start > Run > type “regedit” > Enter)
- Go to HKEY_LOKAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > Advanced > Folder
- Go to Hidden > NOHIDDEN, then set the properties to these: CheckedValue=2, DefaultValue=2
- Go to Hidden > SHOWALL, then set the properties to these: CheckedValue=1, DefaultValue=0
- Go to HideFileExt, then set the properties to these: CheckedValue=0, DefaultValue=0, UncheckedValue=1
- Go to SuperHidden, then set the properties to these: CheckedValue=0, DefaultValue=0, UncheckedValue=1
Now I can set Folder Options to show hidden files/folders.
I want to re-deploy a web application (.war) to glassfishv2 on ubuntu 8.04. After undeploy the web application, I need to stop the glassfish, by trying command:
user@server: sudo asadmin stop-domain domain1
and return:
GlassFish Default Domain Not Present Creating in /home/user/glassfishv2/domain1 Provide admin root port for domain1:
Oops.. something’s not right. I already have domain1 as Default Domain. After some googling, I found that the asadmin need to be run from using full path:
user@server: sudo /usr/share/glassfishv2/bin/asadmin stop-domain domain1
and return:
Domain domain1 stopped.
Looks right. For starting glassfish, just type:
user@server: sudo /usr/share/glassfishv2/bin/asadmin start-domain domain1
It’s been a while since I began to use Google Chrome. It was started when I read a friend’s (Mas Toni) Yahoo Messenger’s status; then I download and install it.
First glance, it has a very simple, minimalist and clean look. No toolbar by default (though you can show bookmark’s bar). Fast startup. Fast browsing/rendering. Tabbed browsing. Very nice. A few days later I found another feature that I had been dreaming of: a detachable tab! Yes, the tab can be detached from one window, and then attached in other window.
I was a big fan of Firefox. But since I had Chrome installed, it’s been my primary browser. I hope Google will continue to develop Chrome, and add other useful features to it; here’s my wish list:
- add-on & theme framework
- easy to switch between search engines (Google, Yahoo, Wikipedia, etc.)
- easy access to Google’s special features, like: translation, conversion, etc.
- synchronizing Chrome’s theme with Google’s theme on special days
I’ve just read news letter from Nokia, and there’s a very interesting news. Finally they release the first s60 smartphone with touchscreen. It is not an E series, nor N series, but a Nokia 5800 XPressMusic. You can read more detail from their official press release or more technical detail from Forum Nokia’s page. Not a surprise that this new gadget also bring a new edition of S60 edition with it, i.e. S60 5th edition. I think we can expect some more new touchscreen gadgets released by Nokia soon.
I am using prepaid Internet broadband service from IndosatM2, with 3 GB quota. Perhaps you’re using similar Internet service, with quota, just like me. And perhaps you’re agree with me that “braoadband” and “usage quota” are quite contradictive
.
Well… in order to save my quota, I’ve been using Flashblock with my favourite browser (read: Firefox). As the name implied, Flashblock works by disabling flash object on a page, and replace it with a small flash icon. You can enable/play the flash object by clicking the icon… nice eh ..
You can get Flashblock from here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433
I have been using Firefox 3 RC 1 for a few days. I could only say that it is … amazing!
I found it so stable, well … my Firefox crashed a few times while I am loading Silverlight content, it is not a surprise at all since the Silverlight plugin is in Beta version. I have tried to install many add-ons, and the Firefox is still working so well (Firefox 2 became so slow when I used many add-ons). The speed is amazing as well, and I feel it is the most noticable upgrade in Firefox.
Let’s support the Firefox Team by helping Firefox 3 break new world record. Subscribed yourself on the Firefox’s Download Day 2008.
Great job Firefox team!
PS: Actually I am using Firefox 3 RC 2 right now. They just release it today (it is dated June 4 2008 on their local time). I just upgraded it a few minutes ago. This new RC version must have been improved.
